About this role

The MYP Design Teacher guides students through design thinking and the MYP Design Cycle across Grades 6–10, from researching opportunities and prototyping to creating and evaluating solutions in product design, coding, robotics, textiles, architecture, and more. Design courses run full year, and Grade 10 students may choose Product Design, Computer Science, Digital Media Design, Design Engineering and Robotics, or Entrepreneurship and Design. Working closely with the Head of the Design Department, the Middle School/Senior School Principal, the MYP Coordinator, Instructional Leaders, and Interns, the Teacher builds a caring rapport with students.

Responsibilities

  • Design Cycle & Making: Apply design thinking and the MYP Design Cycle to research, prototyping, creating, and evaluating, using the 3D printer lab, laser cutters, woodshop, CNC router, robotics arena, and electronics resources.

  • Language & Inclusion: Integrate English language development and multilingual learning strategies into teaching, recognizing that all teachers at Branksome Hall Asia are English language teachers.

  • Assessment & Feedback: Use formative and summative assessment to guide instruction and monitor progress. Communicate learning goals, expectations, and feedback clearly to students and parents, and maintain accurate records within reporting deadlines.

  • Collaboration & Curriculum: Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum design, vertical articulation, assessment moderation, and interdisciplinary learning, and embed service learning into the curriculum.

  • Student Well-being & Relationships: Support social-emotional development through Advisory/Homeroom responsibilities, build rapport based on mutual respect, and establish positive relationships with parents, faculty, and staff while upholding a safe, inclusive culture that values intercultural understanding and child safeguarding.

  • Co-Curricular Contribution: Participate in co-curricular programming, including Week Without Walls and CASE (Creativity, Activity, Service, Enrichment) after-school programs.

  • Professional Practice: Demonstrate the Qualities of Effective Teachers (Stronge, 2018) in professional knowledge, planning, delivery, assessment, learning environment, and professionalism. Engage in professional learning and reflective practice.
