The Middle School Science & Design Technology teacher will help students explore, investigate, and make sense of the world through their in-depth knowledge and understanding of creativity - modeled, taught and supported through a range of exciting and engaging classroom activities. Teaching three sections of Design Technology and two sections of Science, the Middle School Science & Design Technology teacher will have a unique opportunity to help students bridge scientific concepts with authentic, real-world application. The ideal candidate is excited to share their passion and demonstrated expertise across the following areas:
Deep scientific knowledge and understanding
Connecting authentic contexts with scientific concepts to engage students and make meaning
Embedding STEM skills into science units and learning
Designing learning experiences and assessments that focus on the application of skills in rich contexts (PBL approach)
Guiding students in taking projects from concept to reality using the Design Cycle and Design Thinking Methodology
Teaching technical and design skills with a range of methods, including: 3d printing, laser cutting, 3D modeling software, CNC, woodwork, and metal & plastic fabrication.
Providing critical feedback to students about their ideas and prototypes
In-depth understanding of creative processes—modeling, teaching, and supporting creativity through engaging classroom activities
Supporting the student's documentation of ideas, research and prototypes throughout the design process
Developing students’ problem solving skills
Identifying and differentiating for a range of readiness levels within a class, including providing additional challenges for students ready for it.
Experience with Lego Robotics is an added bonus.
Core Responsibilities
Teach assigned Middle School Science & Design Technology courses.
Develop students' disciplinary thinking, critical inquiry, research, analysis, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Utilize varied assessments and student data to monitor progress, adapt instruction, and provide timely, actionable feedback.
Integrate appropriate technology and contemporary resources to enhance learning and connect classroom concepts with real-world contexts.
Partner with counselors, administrators, and parents to support students' academic achievement and social-emotional well-being.
Chaperone local/international trips and fulfill assigned supervision duties.
Maintain professional obligations, meeting deadlines, and honoring schedules.
Strictly uphold ISB standards of integrity, respect, and care.
Serves as an Advisor in the Middle School Advisory Program.
Collaborate as an effective member of high school teams (PLC, Department, Grade Level, etc.)
Positively contribute to school culture through the support and sponsorship of a student club or non-stipended extracurricular activity.
Participates in professional development training and attends required presentations.
Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and working with colleagues.
Ensures student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and /or program classification.
Provides a positive and safe environment in which students are encouraged to actively engage in the learning process.
Strictly uphold ISB expectations for child safeguarding and student well-being.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
A valid teaching license for middle school years, in a related subject area.
Subject expertise in at least one of the primary areas of the positions and experience teaching all required subject areas..
At least 3 years of experience teaching middle school students.
Demonstrated skill at differentiating within the classroom for students of mixed abilities.
Experience with Standard-Based Grading
Experience designing units with UBD - ‘Understanding by Design’ is an advantage
Have experience using data to inform instruction through a Professional Learning Community (PLC)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching IB and/or AP
Experience teaching a standards-based curriculum using the Common Core Standards

Compensation
ISB provides a highly competitive compensation and benefits package that is commensurate with the candidate’s experience and aligned with global international school standards. The initial contract is a two year commitment.
