Athletic Director

The Athletics Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the KIS Athletics Program across Elementary and Secondary.

The Athletics Director is responsible for ensuring that athletics is a high-quality, well-organized and student-centered part of the KIS experience. The role encompasses competitive athletics, coaching, competitions, travel, facilities, student participation, communication, safeguarding, partnerships and the development of school spirit.

The Athletics Director leads the planning and continuous improvement of the Athletics Program and serves as the primary KIS representative to external athletics organizations, including COASH and CAFA. The role works closely with the Head of School, divisional principals and other members of the leadership team to ensure that athletics supports the KIS mission, values and strategic priorities.

The Athletics Director is expected to lead with initiative, communicate clearly, build strong relationships and take ownership of the successful delivery and ongoing development of the program.

The Athletics Director is expected to:

• Be proactive: Anticipate scheduling, staffing, facility, participation and logistical challenges and address them early.

• Build relationships: Develop positive, professional relationships with students, parents, coaches, colleagues and external partners.

• Communicate clearly: Provide timely, accurate and appropriate information to the people who need it.

• Hold high standards: Establish clear expectations and consistently follow through on them.

• Be student-centered: Make decisions that prioritize student safety, wellbeing, participation and development.

• Work collaboratively: Recognize that athletics is part of the wider KIS community and work effectively across divisions and departments.

• Use evidence: Make program decisions based on participation data, feedback, experience and the needs of the school.

• Develop people: Support coaches and student leaders to grow their skills, confidence and responsibility.

Experience as a high-level athlete is helpful
